Education paths leading to profession in country Czech Republic

According to law in the Czech Republic, the profession of seniors’ caregivers may be performed by:

  1. social workers under the conditions specified in Art. 109 and 110,
  2. employees of social services,
  3. volunteers under the conditions set out in Act No. 198/2002 on volunteering, as amended

Regardless of the education attained, a certification course is necessary. This is a profession included in the registered professions, which means that you can start working only after completing a specific certified course. Medical education is an exception, and also without distinction between studies, studies, secondary schools or vocational schools – if their curriculum included the core curriculum of the required course. Approval can only be obtained after sending the diploma of the completed school together with the program to the Recognition unit.

To practice the profession of social worker or social worker, it is necessary to meet the qualification requirements set out in the Act on Social Assistance. A regulated profession is a profession regulated by law in the Czech Republic, without which a person cannot practice this profession or activity (requirements regarding qualifications, where applicable, integrity, state of health, etc.). it is essential to have an accredited professional course.

Professional qualifications of the employee, depending on the path of providing social services: primary education, secondary education with a teaching degree or secondary education with a matriculation degree. Regardless, completion of an accredited qualification course is required.

Additional requirements

In addition to the required qualifications to practice as a social worker, it is also necessary to:

  • proof of inviolability is an extract from the criminal record, as well as documents confirming the fulfilment of the condition of bodily inviolability,
  • Statement of health and medical certificate

 Recognition of education obtained in the home country

If foreign citizen has obtained a professional qualification in another EU or EEA country or in Switzerland and wants to use it in the Czech Republic, he or she must have the qualification recognized by the recognition body, which for the regulated profession is the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic.

If a person obtained professional qualifications outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland and wants to apply for them in the Czech Republic, he can contact the Ministry of the Interior and Communications for more detailed information on how to proceed.

The Recognition Authority (Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic) recognizes the applicant’s professional qualification as equivalent to the professional qualification required in the Czech Republic if the applicant:

  • holds a certificate of qualification entitling him to pursue a regulated activity in his home Member State
  • has pursued the activity on a full-time basis for 10 years or for the same period on a part-time basis in the last 10 years in the home Member State
  • is the holder of a certificate of qualification issued on successful completion of regulated education

By way of derogation, the recognition authority may refuse access to and exercise of a regulated profession by a person holding a first-level qualification certificate to practice that profession, if a level five qualification certificate is required in accordance with law

In the case of a holder of a qualification certificate who does not meet the conditions referred to law, the recognition authority will assess the knowledge and skills confirmed by documents confirming the applicant’s professional qualifications and compare them with the content of education and training leading to the issuance of a qualification certificate required in the Czech Republic to perform regulated activity.

The certificate of professional qualifications and documents confirming other competences must be translated into the Czech language (unless they are issued in the Czech language or an international agreement binding the Czech Republic does not provide otherwise).

Non-formal experience

Professional experience must be confirmed by a competent authority or state institution. In the case of self-employed activity, such activity must be certified by the relevant state authority or be certified by the employer.

Employment Conditions for Senior Caregivers

Working Hours: work according to the schedule (from 8 to 12 hours)

Salary and Benefits: The basic salary from CZK 20,000 CZK to 38,000 (838 Euro to 1593,79 Euro) for work in difficult conditions is CZK 500 to CZK 1,800 per month (21 Euro to 75 Euro)

Job Search: primary education + retraining course for a social worker

Employment Contracts: employment contract for a definite period

Living and Cost of Living: average monthly cost of living from 12,500 to 17,500 CZK
